Kent Test Verbal Codes
Code questions show a word and its coded equivalent (e.g. CAT → DBU) and ask the child either to encode another word using the same rule, or to decode an unfamiliar code. They test alphabet fluency and pattern recognition. Children who can comfortably move forwards and backwards through the alphabet without recitation handle them well.
